Bluepha BioFAB, a biomanufacturing facility in Yancheng City, Jiangsu Province, aims to replace plastic in various life applications by using Bluepha PHA, a naturally synthesized microbial polymer, to drive innovation in biomaterials and molecular materials for a sustainable future.

The office building’s rooftop features shallow ponds filled with temperature-controlled fermentation water. Architecture resembles a petri dish, which nurtures new biomaterials and bridges life and matter.

The exhibition hall, reception room, and conference room protrude above the water’s surface, offering a panoramic, infinite view of the water and sky; The submerged space, featuring offices, meeting rooms, and a multipurpose hall, offers spatial flatness and transparency, while its structural elements and rooms are scattered freely providing openness and excellent diffused lighting, making it a bright workspace for scientists and engineers.

The pillars are combined with planting pools and printing cabinets, create a sculptural form with roof openings, so that the interplay of light and water ripples creates dynamic of shadows, reminding people of their noble mission beyond daily life and binding them together in the wilderness.

The building’s vast, visually stunning surroundings may evoke solitude over time. Therefore, a cozy linear courtyard is created to connect contemplation rooms, salon, gyms, and MEP, fostering inspiration for daily work.

The Weave ceiling serves as a Dynamic LED Canopy.

Dealing with the saline-alkali land, the floor was elevated by 1.2 meters and added soil to the courtyard for quick tree planting. The building utilizes a constant water circulation system from the factory for AC.The air vents beneath the elevated floor slab helps to optimize the ceiling height. Experiments with the use of new PHA materials were also carried out in this building Partition walls of the center conference room are filled with PHA granules.
