Guangming town in Shenzhen was the emigration town of people from north and central area of China in early ages, where it still maintains ruins and heritages of their family. The competition aims to renovate a military defense structure including – a watch tower in woods.

Instead of build or expand structures around the original tower, we propose to create a underground gallery underneath, to avoid unnecessary visual impact above. It keeps environment above untouched and quite.

The watchtower itself is transformed into a mechanical kaleidoscope installation. Sitting on top of a original local rock, it create a sureal experience by a infinite folded view of sky : it used to watch out enemies, now through this watching tower, we look into the history like folded sky.
